The San Lorenzo River runs through it, and it is in what is known locally as the San Lorenzo Valley, which is at the foot of Ben Lomond mountain. The area was settled by Scots and is named after a mountain in Scotland. Ben Lomond means "beacon peak" in Gaelic. The now-defunct Wagon Wheel Bar and Restaurant was where heavyweight boxer Jim Jeffreys trained in the 1940s.

 Nearby enjoy the beautiful county park’s Highland’s park located off Highway 9 South of the town center,which includes the valley seniors center, local soccer and little league games. Or enjoy an afternoon picnic at the Ben Lomond Park viewing the San Lorenzo River.

Ben Lomond is known as the “Heart of the Valley”, due to it’s central location in the San Lorenzo Valley, made up of the townships of Mt. Hermon, Felton, Ben Lomond, Brookdale and Boulder Creek. Each of the towns offer their own unique qualities, but all offer that “Welcome Home” feeling.
